PAUSE AND UNWIND
From the moment visitors arrive, IDS Vancouver sets the tone with innovative design. At the entrance, Montauk Sofa and New Tech Wood present the Cabana Entrance Feature—two luxurious outdoor daybeds that invite guests to pause and unwind before stepping onto the show floor.
At the heart of IDS, the Central Bar: In/Tension by dHKarchitects and AD Projects offers another moment of rest and connection. Guided by the ethos “no screws, no waste,” the installation showcases circular design with raw lumber held together by gravity and tension, ensuring every piece can be reused. Its striking centrepiece, Bjorn—a 12-foot salvaged-tree sculpture by Vancouver design luminary Brent Comber—reimagines the future of waste lumber. Serving as the main bar on opening night and a gathering point all weekend, In/Tension blends sustainability with sculptural beauty.
Hospitality today is more than a place to stay—it’s where we meet, work, socialize, and connect. Night & Day explores this evolution through two key spaces, The Bedroom and The Lobby, highlighting how hospitality continues to influence residential and workplace design.
The Bedroom: An Accessible Retreat by Capella Design and CHY Design reimagines the hotel suite as both aspirational and inclusive. Designed with accessibility from the outset, the suite combines beauty, comfort, and function—delivering an experience that is universally desirable. Capella Design brings expertise in mobility-focused furnishings and accessories, while CHY Design specializes in accessibility-first interiors and aging-in-place solutions.
The Lobby: Greenroom by Twobytwo Architecture Studio × Milltown replaces the traditional reception desk with a biophilic installation of moss, ferns, and organic textures. Immersing guests in Vancouver’s natural landscape, the project merges architectural materials with living elements to redefine hospitality norms and set a new standard for sustainability and experience.
