Bella Gelateria

Located in the heart of Vancouver’s Coal Harbour district, Fairmont Pacific Rim is one of the city’s premier properties, housing a luxury hotel, critically acclaimed restaurants and bars and a prestigious condominium residence on its upper floors. Anchoring the Southeast corner of the property, fronting West Cordova street, Bella Gelateria prides itself on creating the very best gelato using old world techniques and only the finest and freshest ingredients.

Drawing from the storied history and childlike nostalgia of the ubiquitous gelato shops located throughout Italian cities, our intention for the project was to translate this aesthetic tradition for a modern, west coast audience.

Echoing the textures and tones of the gelato, the colour palette is comprised of pastel blue, green and pink hues with grounding elements of rich woods and creamy whites to provide contrast and depth.

Adding visual interest to the space, we commissioned and directed photography that depicts still life compositions of the raw ingredients used in the gelato—reflecting the owner’s commitment to absolute quality.

A trio of these framed images greet visitors as they enter the space, as well as forming the basis for custom wallpaper in the lavatory.

Additional custom elements include the custom banquette seating and tables, as well as a freestanding condiment bar adjacent to the point of sale.
