Sheila Neufeld, an acrylic abstract painter, captures the essence of her richly varied experiences through her art. She invites viewers to share in her passion for the natural world, showcasing her signature techniques of light, texture, and shimmering effects. Drawing inspiration from her childhood in Saskatchewan, as well as her global travels and spiritual practices, Neufeld infuses her powerful abstract pieces with new dimensions and deeper connections.
Now based in Vancouver, Canada, Neufeld has dedicated the last two decades to painting full-time. The nature that has surrounded her throughout her life significantly influences her latest expressive series, “Universe and Dreamscapes” and “Creation.” These works reflect her connection to life, exploring its beauty, complexity, and the limitless expanse of the sky and beyond. Through her unique technique, which she calls “The Shimmer,” she invites viewers to experience the profound and expansive nature of existence. The depth she creates serves as a mirror to the mysteries and intricacies of life itself.
Neufeld works intuitively, enjoying the process of layering until each piece feels complete. “I am always drawn to colors, compositions, light, and emotion. While the theme of my work remains consistent, each piece is a new discovery as I build layer by layer with acrylic paints, gloss mediums, iridescent pigments, and various textures to achieve a luminous, multidimensional effect. My process is distinctive; I incorporate natural and Swarovski crystals, along with their sands, to create ‘The Shimmer.’ This effect interacts with different light sources, hopefully reminding viewers of the magical essence of life itself.”
